Pain fills the air and choking him with the heavy weight of responsibility every day. There’s fear reflecting in her eyes, when she stretches out her hand, lightly ghosting her fingertips across the scar on his neck feeling him almost shudder beneath her touch. Drawing in a breath, she lets it out and brushes her lips across his forehead. His breath is warm against her, as he places a soft kisses to along her neck and collar bone.

Eyes don’t lie, the way her blood pulses through her veins, the fear evident in her hesitant touch and ghosts scattered from where the dust fell and where he is now. All those things that neither of them can seem to explain…that’s what makes them human, right here and right now in this moment.

It is finished and he knows this, knows that anything else he could say or do would only make things worse. He betrayed his best friend and crawled into bed with their enemy, what should he expect?
